SLIK OJK: What You Need to Know About the New Credit Information System

For anyone who has applied for credit before, the term BI Checking is probably familiar. After all, passing BI Checking used to be a mandatory requirement for credit approval. However, that service no longer exists. It has now been replaced with  SLIK OJK, the Financial Information Service System managed by OJK.

Understanding SLIK OJK

SLIK OJK works similarly to the previous system. It provides iDeb, or Debtor Information, which contains credit history and virtual debit information for credit applicants. However, the scope of iDeb under SLIK is much broader. It now includes financial institutions from banks, non-bank institutions, and financing companies.

As a result, SLIK OJK serves as a more complete and accessible credit information system than BI Checking ever did.

Functions of SLIK OJK

The primary functions of  SLIK OJK are clearly stated in OJK Circular Letter No. 50/SEOJK.03/2017 regarding iDeb reporting and requests. According to the regulation, SLIK supports the credit process in several important ways.
First, it helps financial institutions provide funds more efficiently.
Second, it strengthens risk management practices.
Third, it encourages discipline across the financial industry.
Finally, it improves the overall assessment of debtor quality.

Compared with the previous SID (Debtor Information System), SLIK offers more open and wider access. SID restricted access mainly to banks through Bank Indonesia. Now, lenders access the information directly through OJK, which shortens procedures and simplifies verification.

Many institutions actively report their data to SLIK. These include commercial banks, rural banks (BPR), Islamic banks, and various Islamic business units. In addition, fintech companies, microfinance institutions, and qualified cooperatives also submit their credit data after meeting OJK requirements.

SLIK also stores extensive personal and financial information. For example, it records the applicant’s name, birth details, address, and national ID number (NIK). It also includes complete financial records, such as loan types, loan quality, credit limits, collateral information, guarantees, securities, and administrative account transactions.

Advantages of SLIK OJK

After understanding its functions, it is also important to learn the advantages of  SLIK OJK compared to the previous system.

1. Faster Credit Approval

Lenders can check applicants’ credit data more quickly through SLIK. Because of this speed, applicants with strong credit history receive decisions much faster.

2. Better Access for MSMEs

SLIK also opens wider opportunities for MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises). Applicants with a positive financial record often gain easier access to credit. As a result, both lenders and borrowers can maintain healthier credit reputations.
