Ransomware Attack Awareness Through IDCloudTalks
Jakarta, June 13, 2017

A ransomware attack has become one of the most serious cyber threats today. Recently, WannaCry ransomware drew global attention and raised major concerns, including in Indonesia.
In response, the IndonesianCloud Cyber Security Team took the initiative to host an educational event called IDCloudTalks. This first session focused on explaining the WannaCry incident in depth.
Moreover, IDCloudTalks is designed as a recurring event. Each session will cover important topics related to IT and cybersecurity. Therefore, IndonesianCloud aims to build long-term cybersecurity awareness.
Understanding the Ransomware Attack Threat
This first IDCloudTalks session aimed to improve cybersecurity awareness, especially related to ransomware threats like WannaCry.
Herwono Wijaya, Head of Cyber Security Division at IndonesianCloud, delivered the main presentation. The event took place at Conclave Co-Working Space Wijaya on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.
During the session, he explained that a ransomware attack restricts access to victim data. Attackers then demand a financial ransom to restore access.
As a result, victims must pay to regain control of their data. However, this payment does not always guarantee recovery.
Why Ransomware Is a Serious Cyber Threat
Ransomware poses a real danger in the digital era. It can disrupt daily life and critical services.
More importantly, ransomware attacks do not target randomly. Instead, attackers often focus on facilities that affect public services. These include healthcare, government, and essential infrastructure.
Because of this, ransomware has become a major concern for society as a whole.
Ransomware Prevention and Risk Mitigation
Ransomware prevention is not optional. Instead, it is a shared responsibility.
This point was emphasized by Garibaldi, Senior Cloud Presales at IndonesianCloud. He explained that prevention and impact reduction start with each individual and organization.
First, users must perform regular data backups. Backups should not happen only after an attack. Instead, they must become a routine process.
Moreover, strong backup strategies help protect critical data and reduce downtime. As a result, organizations can recover faster after incidents.
IndonesianCloud provides reliable backup solutions to support businesses in securing their data against ransomware attacks.
Closing Session and Networking
As the final part of the IDCloudTalks event, participants joined a networking session while breaking their fast together.
We hope this session delivered real value to all participants. Most importantly, we look forward to meeting you again at the next IDCloudTalks event.
