E-Payment and Fintech in Indonesia: Insights from Indonesian Cloud at ACCA Roundtable

E-Payment and Fintech in Indonesia continue to grow rapidly. On 9 March 2017, this topic became the main focus of an ACCA roundtable discussion held in Jakarta.

With the theme “E-Payment and Fintech”, Noerman Taufik, CEO of IndonesianCloud, joined the event as a keynote speaker. The discussion gathered industry leaders to explore how fintech is reshaping the financial ecosystem in Indonesia.

Understanding Fintech Regulation in Indonesia

In November 2016, Indonesia introduced Fintech Regulation No. 18/40/PBI/2016. This regulation aims to manage the fast growth of fintech and electronic transactions across the country.

However, while the regulation supports the government’s long-term goal of financial inclusion, it also raises important questions. Especially, how does it impact small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in the fintech sector?

This roundtable session explored those challenges in depth.

How E-Payment and Fintech Drive Financial Inclusion

The rapid adoption of e-payment and fintech solutions has changed how people transact. Payments are now instant, secure, and convenient. Most importantly, they are widely accessible through mobile channels.

Indonesia has nearly twice as many mobile phone users as bank account holders. Because of this, electronic payment companies can reach underserved markets more effectively. At the same time, they significantly reduce transaction costs and bypass strict traditional banking standards.

As a result, fintech plays a critical role in expanding access to financial services.

Fintech as a Key Driver of Innovation

Fintech innovation encourages companies to deliver modern financial services using advanced technology. It allows businesses to avoid high costs and rigid processes commonly found in traditional banking.

Moreover, fintech enables faster experimentation, better user experience, and scalable digital infrastructure. These factors make fintech a powerful engine for sustainable growth in Indonesia’s digital economy.

IndonesianCloud’s Perspective on the Fintech Ecosystem

Through this discussion, IndonesianCloud shared its experience supporting secure and scalable digital infrastructure for fintech companies. Reliable cloud platforms are essential to ensure performance, compliance, and trust in electronic payment systems.

Therefore, cloud technology becomes a strong foundation for fintech innovation.
