Dekstop Vs Web-Based

Choose a Web-Based or Desktop ERP Application?

Do you know about ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning? Or maybe you’ve heard of it? ERP is an application/software that can integrate all of a company’s business functions from upstream to downstream. By business functions, I mean systems related to sales, marketing, HRM, finance, production/operations, accounting, inventory, and many other business functions.

Let’s say I am an HR Manager responsible for managing the recruitment process, managing human resources, arranging leave, payroll, providing training, and so on. My company is growing, and the number of employees is increasing. I have more and more work that remains unfinished, and data duplication often occurs. I have to find a solution to this problem, so I am looking for a better system. ERP is one of the things that helps me with my work.

Implementation of ERP Use

After searching for several references from colleagues at work and outside the office, ERP applications can be implemented in two ways: web-based or desktop. What is the difference? With web-based ERP, customers do not need to install the application on their computers. They can use it directly through a web browser. Compatible web browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and others. Because it uses a web browser, customers need an internet connection to access the application. They can choose any Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Meanwhile, desktop-based ERP requires customers to first install the application on their computers before they can use it. Each desktop user will have the application installed, and each user remains independent from one another; they cannot be directly integrated.

So, should you choose a web-based or desktop ERP application? Here is some information that explains why customers choose web-based or desktop ERP applications.

With the advancement of cloud computing technology and improved internet facilities, I would recommend that companies use web-based ERP. Web-based ERP allows modules to be integrated with one another, is more mobile, can be accessed anytime and anywhere, is user-friendly, easy to use, and simple.

So, should you choose a web-based or desktop ERP application? Hopefully, you won’t be in a dilemma when making your decision.
